The West Tacoma Optimist Club is the local chapter of Optimist International, a worldwide volunteer organization made up of more than 2,300 local Optimist Clubs. Every day, Optimist Club members work to make the future brighter by bringing out the best in children, in our community and in ourselves.

Membership & Fellowship

The West Tacoma Optimist Club has been a "Friend of Youth" since 1956. We have continually served Tacoma, University Place, and the surrounding communities with projects that enhance our quality of life with a special emphasis on children.

Optimist Clubs are a civic-minded social group. During regularly scheduled meetings, adult members learn about our community so that they may tackle different challenges and celebrate many achievements.

The West Tacoma Optimist Club is an Honor Club, a recognition bestowed by Optimist International signifying the best of the best. We invite you to become a member and share the fellowship that grows when you volunteer to serve your community.

Scholarships

Our favorite projects help children reach their full potential including scholarship programs that help improve communication skills through public speaking and essay writing, among other things. We support local schools and students with recognition for citizenship, academics, athletics, and sharing their positive attitude with others.

Community Service

Once a month, West Tacoma Optimist Club members gather at the Emergency Food Network for the repack project. This is one example of how an Optimist Club touches the community with its service. We are always on the lookout for a new project or two. Join us and share your ideas and needs.
